Almost everyone knows about the benefits that commerce has gained with the Internet. Not only are there advantages for sellers, but buyers are benefited by the ease of shopping and the wide variety of information that is available. With the use of the Internet anyone can offer products or services for sale to millions of prospective customers and clients. The beauty of online marketing is that you can do it for very little cost when compared to a physical store. Also your website will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week even while you are away from your computer. For the most part your online business runs itself.
This knowledge has encouraged many people to start their own website and work from home. However, a problem that all these webmasters must face is how to drive traffic to their site. You can build a well thought out and convincing website, but if you don’t get visitors you cannot make any money.
There are numerous methods that can be used to develop traffic for a website. Many of these techniques can be very time consuming and expensive. There is good news for those of you who would like to get a significant increase in your traffic at very little cost. This method involves expired domain names and the use of redirection. Using this method of website promotion you simply purchase expired domain names that match the theme of a website, or websites, that you currently promote and use redirects to send the traffic to your existing URLs.
When a new domain name is registered the purchaser pays for the registration in one year intervals – usually one year at a time. Throughout that first year, or even several years, the webmaster will promote the website and build backlinks and develop traffic flow. Sometimes, when the registration period is up the webmaster will fail to pay for the renewal. There can be many different reasons for this, but generally they just lose interest or get involved in other projects. The important thing to know is that once the domain name expires it will now be available for others to register.
There are literally thousands of domain names that expire every day. Most of these domain names will already have an established traffic base, backlinks, and search engine listings. With so many domain names expiring every day it can become difficult to locate the domain names that you need. Fortunately there are services available that you can sign for that will help you to locate the perfect domain names. You may search their database of domains available and even sign up for email alerts that keep you informed you know about pending domain name expirations.
If you want to take full advantage of the great benefits that can be realized with the use of expired domain names you will need to research the domains available and learn how to tell which ones are the most valuable for you.

It’s no secret, the lifeblood of any website is the amount of
traffic that consistently visits it on a daily basis. Generally
speaking large amounts of traffic leads to an increase in sales
and income. Poor traffic leads to disappointment and zero
dollars in your pocket. This article outlines some simple
techniques I use to drive traffic to my websites.
I have 4 primary methods that I use to drive traffic to my
website. They include writing articles, link exchanges,
pay-per-click advertising and classified ads. Some of the
methods are free but require a little more elbow grease while
other methods require less work but do require an initial
investment of money in order to get them started.
The main method I use to attract traffic to my website is to
write articles similar to the one you are reading. Based on my
personal experiences this is the best way to encourage visitors
to your website and I truly wish I had started using this method
earlier. The beauty behind writing articles is the power it has
to drastically improve your website both in terms of relevancy
to the search engines and in visitors. For instance when I write
an article I do so with the intent to encourage the reader of
that article to visit my websites, this is benefit number 1. The
second benefit occurs when other webmasters utilize that same
article as content on their websites. This has the potential to
send more visitors to your web page. Finally the biggest
advantage to writing articles comes from the automatic link-back
to your website. Everyone knows the advantages a good link
exchange program can provide to a website. When a Webmaster
publishes one of my articles on their website they have to
include my signature block. This block of information contains
links to some of my websites – which is how I earn a one-way
link exchange back to my websites. This method increases my
website’s popularity with the search engine Google.
A good link exchange program is vital to the success of your
website and can help attract visitors. Search engines such as
Google use links back to your website as a means for determining
the page rank of a website. This page rank is beneficial to a
websites’ success and placement in the search engine directory.
Probably the easiest way to immediately send traffic to your
website is through the use of pay-per-click search engines.
Although there is a cost involved when using this method you are
guaranteed to receive traffic that is truly interested in your
product or service. This method can also be used to test new
ideas to make sure they will be profitable before fully
releasing them. Again remember no traffic is the same as no
sales.
Classified ads allow you another opportunity to entice visitors
to your website. The downside is that money is again forced to
leave your possession before you actually make any sales. This
method of traffic generation is similar to the PPC search engine
technique described above.
As I mentioned earlier I use the four methods described above to
generate visitors to my websites. Although these aren’t the only
methods I use, they are the techniques that have worked best for
me when it comes to generating qualified traffic and making a
decent income online.

A free traffic exchange is one of the best ways for webmasters to get free website traffic to their sites or affiliate marketing campaigns. Free Traffic Exchanges allow you to surf other members websites, and for each viewing, you get so many of your own URLs and banners added into the rotation for other members to view. There are hundreds, if not thousands of free traffic exchanges online today, and each traffic exchange has thousands of members surfing each and every day. That’s a lot of potential traffic you can get for little or no cost for your advertising efforts. All you need to do is spend some time surfing the exchanges to get credits for your websites to be viewed by thousands of potential customers.
You do need to find which traffic exchanges work best for your website and/or promotions. No two free traffic exchanges are created equal and the most active ones are not necessarily the best ones for your needs.
Free traffic exchanges are a great marketing tool for a variety of reasons. The most obvious reason is that you get lots of people looking, and hopefully clicking on your website or promotional pages. But there are hidden benefits to free traffic exchanges you may not have even considered.
Search engines love free traffic exchanges because of all the incoming and outgoing links they generate. Plus the rapidly changing content is another reason the search bots love these things. Exchanges that have more content also generate a higher page rank, and therefore more traffic, and increased memberships. The key is to find exchanges that are very active and have lots of members. The more members they have, the more potential customers you get looking at your offer and your chances for sales conversions are that much better. But bigger isn’t always better.
Some free traffic exchanges may convert sales like crazy for one person, and be a complete waste of time for another. If everyone promoted the same website or affiliate program in the same traffic exchange for example, then your chances of making sales would not be very good. Even if you were promoting the #1 best product or service on the internet, the fact is if everyone promoted the same program, your chances are much lower that someone will purchase through your website or link to make you any money. Also, when people see the same ad over and over again, they get desensitized to it. Don’t fall into this trap. It’s one thing to try and sell a very popular product/service/ebook etc, but it’s another thing when a thousands of other people are doing the same thing. Competition is a good thing, because it validates your market, but too much competition is tough and it’s time to move on to something else.
We all know clicking on ads in a free traffic exchange can be very boring, monotonous and can take a lot of time. That’s why you need to make the best of your opportunity or you will just be wasting a lot of your time and effort on something that just isn’t working. If you have your own niche website, then you already differentiated yourself from the pack. If you are an affiliate marketer, then you need to find products/services that everyone else isn’t promoting, especially within that particular traffic exchange.
One way to use free traffic exchanges to your advantage is to join a few at first, and see if your sales pick up. If your sales aren’t doing well, then test out a few more. When you do find a few traffic exchanges that appear to be generating sales for you, then narrow those down until you find the one, or two that are working best for you. Now concentrate your efforts on those because they’re the ones you want. At least for now anyway. Things may change, so keep an eye on your campaigns and if sales seem to be falling off, then it might be time to change your offer or find another traffic exchange that could pick your profits up again.
As I mentioned, your individual promotions are key to your success. If you’re trying to promote something everyone else is, I don’t care what traffic exchange service you’re using, your sales conversions are going to be very low, or nothing at all. You cannot always blame the exchange. Sometimes you have to look at yourself and think if you’re doing all you can to make sales. The same goes for any advertising methods such as Pay-Per-Click (PPC) services like Google AdWords.
If you’re going to be using multiple free traffic exchanges, and I recommend that you do, your first priority should be to pick up a multi-tab web browser. Many of these browsers are free and run on PCs and MACs. The tabs feature allows you to have one web browser open with multiple tabs each going to a separate website. You could easily put a half dozen of your free exchange sites in these tabs, and earn credits for all of them at the same time. So instead of surfing for 1/2 an hour or an hour earning 200 hits for one exchange, you could earn 200 hits for 5 or 6 exchanges in the same amount of time. This is a huge time saver and multiplies your earned hits by 5X or 6X and increase your sales conversions.
Getting free traffic to your website is a lot of work. If you don’t have the money to spend on full blown PPC (pay-per-click) campaigns like Google AdWords, free traffic exchanges are a great way to get the free website traffic you need.

Pay Per Click (PPC) is an advertising method that can be used to promote your website. By placing a PPC ad, you are paying the search engines to bring traffic to your website. You, the advertiser, pay a “cost per click” each time a person clicks on your ad. This cost is determined by the amount you bid for each keyword associated with your ad. You place an ad using the keywords you want to reference to your website, and place a bid on those keywords for placement rank. The higher the bid, the higher rank you can obtain in the search engine for placement of your ad. When a person searches for your keyword, your ad will appear in the search results. Each time your ad is clicked on, you are charged the amount that you bid on for the word being searched.
There are several PPC search engines. The most popular ones in the US these include:
.Google
.Yahoo
.MIVA
.Kanoodle
.LookSmart
.Lycos
.goClick
.Enhance
.Searchfeed
.ePilot
.Search123
.7Search
In the UK these include:
.MIVA UK
.Mirago
When you place your PPC ad campaign with one the search engines, be sure the keywords that you use are the same as the primary keywords used in your website. You also want the keywords to be the same as those in the title of your ad. Use very targeted keywords. Do not bid on every word that you think might relate to your site. While this may attract additional traffic to your site, it will not be the targeted traffic that you want. You want your ad to bring traffic to your site that will convert into a sale. By placing your ad using targeted keywords, you will be bringing potential customers to your site and not visitors. Since you are paying each time someone clicks on your ad, you don’t want to pay for visitors.
It is also advantageous to place more than one ad campaign for your site. The second ad campaign would contain targeted keywords that were different from the ones used in the first ad campaign. This way, you can run a comparison of the two ad campaigns to see which one works the best and which keywords are being searched for most often. If you find that only a few keywords in each ad campaign are being searched for, you can always take those keywords that are targeted the most and put all those words in one ad campaign. This will save you time in the long run as you will then only have to keep tabs on one ad campaign for your website.
The cost of PPC can become very expensive very quickly. This cost can be controlled, however, by setting a limit on the amount that you tell the search engines you are willing to pay per day for your ad campaigns. You can also control the amount of clicks by only using targeted keywords related to your website.
If used properly, PPC is a great way to get targeted traffic to your website. Just make sure your ad campaigns are set up to use the same keywords that your website is optimized for. When you set up an ad campaign, the search engine will crawl your website. If the keywords in your ad campaign are different from those in your website, you will have a higher bid rate. Don’t run one ad campaign with 100’s of keywords. Run two or more ad campaigns using a smaller number of targeted keywords.
The search engines are constantly changing their rules and guidelines. Be sure to keep current with all the changes and adjust your ad campaigns accordingly.
